I’m not a royalist and certainly not for a Royal family not my own, but I did watch the wedding because I wanted to see Kate’s dress. I had a few things in mind for the dress like long sleeves and lace and this dress delivered! I love it, it reminded me greatly of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress, which I love. The dress was designed by Sarah Burton, head of Alexander McQueen since his death and she did a great job. The dress is exquisitely cut and the lace appliques are amazing. On the official site I found this information about the dress:
Individual flowers have been hand-cut from lace and hand-engineered onto ivory silk tulle to create a unique and organic design, which incorporates the rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock.
I am very impressed by the craftmanship of this. I’ve seen this done on corsets and have seen tutorials of it and it’s lot’s of work to create a seamless design.
The dress is made with ivory and white satin gazar. The skirt echoes an opening flower, with white satin gazar arches and pleats. The train measures two metres 70 centimetres. The ivory satin bodice, which is narrowed at the waist and padded at the hips, draws on the Victorian tradition of corsetry and is a hallmark of Alexander McQueen’s designs. The back is finished with 58 gazar and organza covered buttons fastened by Rouleau loops. The underskirt is made of silk tulle trimmed with Cluny lace.
It not only reminded me of corsetry but also the shaping that happened in the 50′s without the pointy bras. The pleats at the back remind me of Watteau pleats. I have a small obsession with Watteau pleats so I love this detail.
Pippa’s dress, her sister and maid of honor, was also wearing a Sarah Burton creation and I love it in it’s simplicity. Some people like it better than Kate’s dress but if Kate had worn this I would have found it to simple. It’s perfect for a maid of honor and Pippa rocks this dress.
I wish Prins Wiliam and Kate a blessed marriage and many happy days together.

I can't decide which I liked more: the beautiful dress, or the horrendous hats.

Strangely this wedding made me want to take up millinery.
So I could do better…
